Digital Image Files ? Megapixels, Megabytes, or DPI?
July 31, 2009
When I promised readers that I was going to do an article on this topic I was scared. For two reasons - firstly, it’s a HUGE subject. I get lots of questions about it, and I see a fair bit of misunderstanding about it. Secondly, there are already a lot of good articles about it on the web, like this one on luminous-landscape.com.
But I know that trawling the internet for technical information is not your idea of fun. That’s my job! So here’s my attempt at summing this up quickly for you:
DPI - Dots Per Inch
The most common question I get on this topic is, “My client / boss / nephew has asked me to send an image at a size of 300 dpi. What does that mean”?
The answer: Not much.
You see, DPI stands for Dots Per Inch. It’s a useful measure of image resolution (in other words, how much information is resolved in the picture). But if you don’t know the image size in inches (or feet, miles, centimetres, millimitres, or some other measure of size), then the amount of dots per inch doesn’t mean much.
Valentine?s Day - Online Worship
July 30, 2009
Gazing the wide stretched blue carpet, with blows of zephyrs whispering and blowing leaves away, is the best way to rest your mind from the day-to-day hassle. It’s the time when every living thing seems to grow and is nourished by the augmentation of spring. The basic demand of existence is to get inner contentment, which can be obtained by the internal & external stability of an entity. In my two optically active balls the stability desire for man & women fluctuate in many ways. Man & woman made for each other may have different attitudes for gaining inner contention but share parallel ideas for gaining eternal and sentimental contentment. This doesn’t differentiate between any cast creed and race; all same one in for all. And the best way to articulate your feelings is to blast the mind-set on lovers’ day so called "Valentine’s Day".
Every February across the whole world candies, flowers, gifts and cards are exchanged between the lovers, which is in remembrance of St. Valentine. Obviously we are living in an Islamic republic and here the concept of Christianity should not last but he has done some thing exceptional that’s why every religion is celebrating this day in his respect and spreading the message, which he narrated and preached in his time. There are many beliefs about this myth and this history is still cloaked in ambiguity. St. Valentine’s Day contains remnants of both Christian and ancient Roman Tradition.

Saving Money on Craft Show Supplies
by: Natalie Goyette
Supplies are what make a craft. Unless you are making something
where you can use regular household items, or that don’t need
anything but the buyer to complete the sale, then supplies are
going to be a major part of your crafts.
Finding a supplier that isn’t going to cost you an arm and a
leg, and still have good quality might be a challenge at first.
But, in my experience, it is always better to pay just a little
bit more for good quality, than it is to buy bargain basement
materials and have your customers be disappointed when the
overall quality of your craft is poor.
Once you combine your experience with the supplies and the
experience of making the craft, you will soon realize where you
might be able to save a few pennies on supplies, and where you
should just pay for good quality.
You’ll need to have several excellent sources for supplies that
are readily available in order to be a successful crafter.
Mechanical Poetry - Part Three
July 28, 2009
Have you ever read the lyrics of a Simon and Garfunkle song? Pure poetry. Want to write poems like that? Start copying them. Let me explain.
The Myth Of Creativity
Creativity is somewhat of a myth. It isn’t that it doesn’t exist, but people’s ideas about it are mis-informed. Many believe that to be creative is to come up with something completely new. There isn’t an artist or inventor out there who has done this.
Somebody had to write the first four-line verse or haiku poem, right? Now is everyone that uses these forms an uncreative copy-cat? No, of course not. We must copy forms, general ideas and techniques, so why not do it more systematically?
Poem Writing Tricks
Copy a poem you like, and then play with the elements. Part of the beauty of a poem is in the structure and the rhythm. Why not insert your own words into that, to see what happens?
Here is the last part of a poem titled “Gratitude.” It started by painting a picture of the mountains,and then;
Words fail, as they should…
So there is nothing to say There is nothing to say There is nothing Is nothing Nothing…

Rudyard Kipling on Masonry: “the closest thing to a religion that I shall ever know”.
"The truly creative mind in any field is no more than this: a human creature born abnormally, inhumanly sensitive. To him, a touch is a blow, a sound is a noise, a misfortune is a tragedy, a joy is an ecstasy, a friend is a lover, a lover is a god, and failure is death. Add to this cruelly delicate organism the overpowering necessity to create, create, create - so that without the creating of music or poetry or books or buildings or something of meaning, his very breath is cut off from him. He must create, must pour out creation. By some strange, unknown, inward urgency he is not really alive unless he is creating."- Pearl Buck
“I never did give anybody hell. I just told the truth and they thought it was hell.” - Harry S. Truman
“? the archetypal Roman shouldered the White Man’s Burden, the arduous but fabulously profitable task of governing those whom, despite all evidence to the contrary, the Romans judged incapable of governing themselves.” (Lucy Hughes-Hallett from ‘Cleopatra’)

Profiting From Pleasure - Art Collecting Tips: A Six-Part Series on Successful Art Collecting: Part 1 - Why Buy Art?
by: Carol Chua
WHY BUY ART? To answer this question, ask yourself what your reasons are for thinking of acquiring a piece of art. An artwork can cost a considerable sum, but if it meets your needs, it’s worth every penny.
Anyone can buy art, and for almost any reason. Many people buy an artwork simply because they like it, even if the artwork may be by an unknown artist. Art, as long as you enjoy it, is never a waste of money. As John Keats puts it in Book 1 of Endymion :
“A thing of beauty if a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases”
Art Is For Enjoyment
Art is meant to be displayed, unlike shares or bonds. Don’t ever feel pressured to buy something you won’t appreciate looking at day after day, no matter what other people may say. Don’t buy something that doesn’t appeal to you just because it is trendy, because the artist is famous, or because you have been advised that the artwork will make a good investment. If you don’t like the artwork at all, don’t buy it!
Making Mom Happy on Mothers Day
July 26, 2009
Mothers day is May 8th this year, are you ready? Are you in need of an idea for how to treat mom on Mothers Day that will not break your budget? How about indulging mom with a delightful home cooked brunch and a special tea pot for her to take home at the end of the day.
Making moms eyes sparkle with a beautifully set table is as easy as pulling out that lacey table cloth and placing a vase of fresh flowers in the center for her to enjoy. Dig out the fine china; what have you been waiting for? This is that special occasion you reserve for only the best. Remember this is your mom, so make your table sparkle with love. She will go home knowing how much you love and appreciate her.
Prepare a mom friendly brunch that will have her telling all her friends what amazing offspring she has. Start the brunch with a large bowl of fresh fruit and crepes dusted with powdered sugar. Then serve mom a crust less quiche accompanied by warm fresh baked rolls. Don’t forget to fill that special tea pot with stepping hot loose leaf tea such as an English breakfast or an Earl Grey.

Birdwatching; A Free And Fascinating Pastime For All
by: Jackie Gee
What is it that lures grown men (and women) into the undergrowth to get cold, wet and muddy just to gaze at our feathered friends? Many people are discovering birdwatching and finding it to be an immensely rewarding pastime. In this article Jackie Gee explores why birding is such a pleasurable activity for more and more people.
My first experience of deliberate birdwatching took place in Richmond Great Park. The time; 1966, the occasion; one of the first dates with my (now) husband. There I was, all dressed up and ready to knock him out with my drop dead gorgeousness (memory plays strange tricks as you get older!) and there he was, luring me into the undergrowth of the park, hissing to me to keep my head down. No, it wasn’t this bird’s feathers he was after observing, but a green woodpecker that he had spotted. It must have been love on my part because, although I don’t remember seeing the flash of emerald, I do remember getting my trendy high boots covered in mud.
Market Your Photography Business
July 24, 2009
Setting up your own photography business it easy, you don’t need office space in can be done from your own home. However this is not the easiest type of business to market, especially if you are new to the business. Quite often to market this type of business you need specialist contacts, and your newness to the business precludes you from having these contacts, unless of course your surname is Eastman.
Don’t underestimate the power of marketing, because it is the tool that can make or break your business. Marketing is the commercial aspect of transferring goods from one owner to another. Without this tool you are lost, but don’t despair, there are effective avenues you can explore to market your business successfully.
First of all you need to decide what form of business you are going to set up, there are only two basic types - Assignment photography and Stock photography.
Assignment photography covers jobs that you have been hired to photograph. In other words you have a specific target to photograph. An example of this type of photography is to cover Mr X’s wedding. This type of the photography is the bread and butter of photographers, however it is unlikely to win you the Pulitzer Prize for photography.
10 Great Gift Ideas for Fathers Day
July 23, 2009
What do you get for the man who has always been there for you? You want it to be something special, something he hasn’t gotten before, something that he will cherish. It cannot be the tired old gift of after shave lotion or soap on a rope. Not this year!
To start your idea list, think about the things you used to do or still do together. Think about the “firsts” he added to your life; the first baseball game, the first boat ride, how he helped you get your balance on your first bike, how he showed you it was fun to play the piano, your first hunting or fishing trip. Make a list of the things he does now or things you’ve heard him talk about doing but has never done. Somewhere in this list is the perfect gift for the man who has been your Father all these years.
1. For the sailing dad, get him a hand carved scaled model of the winning sailing boat of the America’s cup to proudly display in his office or den.
2. If he still has his grandfather’s pocket watch, get him a leather covered case to display it.
