How To Save Your Fruit Tree Blossoms From A Spring Freeze

How To Save Your Fruit Tree Blossoms From A Spring Freeze
 by: Steve Boulden

In most parts of the country it’s still dead of Winter. However, in a few spots like here in the Desert Southwest, the warming weather starts to play tricks on Spring budding trees and plants. They think it’s time to wake up when it’s really not quite safe to.

In my own garden, I have an old Peach Tree that produces the most wonderful almost softball size peaches. And up until a few years ago, I rarely got the opportunity to see one make it past the blossom stage.

As sure as the first warm days would wake the old tree up in a display of absolute pink, so surely would a Springtime freeze bring it to an end.

But then one day a few Springs back….. I had a great idea.

It was a little overdue but still quite fortunate that I picked those first warm Spring days to take down and put up the Christmas lights. Because as I held those lights in my hands and looked over at that beautiful pink tree just coming into its glory, a light bulb turned on in my head.

The Well-Dressed Photographer - Winter

April 29, 2009

Some of the best images can be captured during the winter months, so don’t let the cold stop you. For the best photography experience, wear clothing that will keep you comfortable and safe.

Dressing in layers and choosing clothes made of suitable materials are the best ways to fight cold weather. Layers allow you to quickly add or subtract clothing to adapt to the varying climate, your activity level and tolerance to the environment. Selecting clothes made of certain materials will maximize the layers’ effectiveness.

Layering fundamentals

It starts with a good “first layer”? the clothing next to your skin. Moisture from perspiration or precipitation will lower your body temperature, making you feel cold, if left next to your skin. Appropriate first layers wick away that moisture, leaving your skin dry and warm. They are made of natural materials such as silk or wool, or synthetic materials, such as polypropylene. These materials are traded under a variety of brand names. Cabela’s has a good selection right here.

Thermal underwear designed specifically for the cold weather comes in three weights: light, mid and expedition weight. Choose the one that best fits your activity and tolerance. Don’t use first layers made of cotton or cotton-blend. While comfortable, they are risky to use since they don’t dry quickly, and you will get cold.

Slavers Claim To be Slaves - Taxation

The United States of America was planned by elite members of secret societies. One of those elites was Francis Bacon whose utopian book actually used what was being done in Peru as a model. Indeed you will have to read a lot more books to know that these elites were involved in the Americas since before the time of Moses but suffice it to say we have forensic analysis or Peruvian cocaine in Egyptian mummies and genetics to go along with data galore from all disciplines of science. The US Founding document has a pre-cursor Constitution from over a century earlier in the Iroquois Confederation. There were Masons with traders in America who had been here before Columbus and there was an elite group of Indians who belonged to one of their offshoots called The Mediwiwin Society. Haplogroup X genetics shows us that the Sioux are white and the Sioux are related to the Iroquois and at one time they both were the Megwi and before that they were Hopewell, Adena and Poverty Point Phoenician traders back to the time of Stonehenge if not before.

The Ballad of: Brawling Mad-dog Sergeant Rook [Now in: SPANISH and English]

April 28, 2009

English Version

A bunch of us guys in the hut

In ?Nam Were playing cards, singing songs; In a solo-room, back of the hut Lay mad-dog, Sergeant Rook;

And watching from a distance Was his sidekick, Corporal Cook.

When out of the night, he wanted

To fight This bully of six-foot-two Dog-drunk, smelling like a skunk

I wanted to fight him too.

He wobbled like a duck as I

Blocked his punch-

(for I was drunk too), And I kicked him several times

I guess- Yet he didn’t fall, as expected This Sergeant I barely knew?

There was no man, could beat

This bear of a brut, In our company, or there about So I kicked him in the groin

Again- And still he didn’t shout!

And such was I, as he looked

At me Puzzled from brow to foot He was a demon from hell I

Thought This mad-dog Sergeant Rook.

With the face of bulldog

And a deadly stare I swear he was three hundred

Pounds; I twisted my body like a cobra Jumped in the air like a bird

This Mothers Day — Give The Gift Of Fitness

April 27, 2009

Do you know a Mom that deserves a special gift this year for Mother’s Day? I’m sure you know at least one, if not more. Sure, flowers can always brighten a Mom’s day and a dinner out is always appreciated. But, doesn’t she deserve something more personal, something that won’t wilt and something that lasts longer than an evening? This year give that special woman a gift that will improve her well being.

I’m talking about the gift of fitness. Improved fitness is a gift that is invaluable to everyone. After all, what woman doesn’t want to look better, have more energy, and be healthier? Plus, all Moms need to take time for themselves, but most are reluctant to schedule that "me" time. So, give them a gift that will help encourage them to enjoy some alone time .

When you give a woman the gift of fitness, you are helping her open a door to better health (both physically and mentally). I can’t think of a more thoughtful gift that shows the recipient how much you care about their well being. By giving the gift of fitness you are providing them with unlimited health benefits. And, it’s a gift that you can truly feel proud to give.

Whack ‘em Back: Pruning Plants For More Flowers

Whack ‘em Back: Pruning Plants For More Flowers
 by: Doug Green

Plants such as fuchsia and geraniums can be pruned back the end of Februray to early March. The long lanky growth of winter’s low sunlight should be pruned back hard. This stringy growth is not strong enough to support the weight of profuse summer blossoms and unless the plant is cut back, this summer the plant will look ugly when it should be a showpiece in your garden. I used to simply whack the geraniums back to six or eight inch stubs from their twelve to eighteen inch stems and allow them to regrow and resprout from their stalks. Remember that the more new growth you have on an annual plant, the more flowers it will produce. Plants that have woody stems such as fuchsia should not be so drastically pruned. Cut back leaving four to five side side shoots to remain on the main stem. Each of the side shoots can similarly be pruned back leaving only four or five leaves on each of the side shoots.

Make More of Your Photos

April 24, 2009

We all want to make the most of our wedding photos and a new service from totalPIX makes it very easy with their beautifully bound photobooks.

Like all the best ideas, the idea of a photobook is very simple. Until now if you wanted to compile your own wedding album you first needed to get your photos printed. Unless you have a very expensive photo-quality printer, this meant getting them printed professionally either online or at a local photography outlet. Then they had to be put in the album and any captions you wanted either hand written or printed out and then added to the pages.

With a totalPIX photobook, you simply download the totalPIX software which includes several wedding templates, drag and drop your photos onto the template, add your captions and then upload everything to totalPIX.

A couple of days later, so long as you are in the UK, your photobook will arrive through the post, carefully packaged in perfect condition.

The Art of Letterboxing

The Art of Letterboxing
 by: Amanda Baker

It’s a lazy Saturday afternoon and you’re bored. Or maybe your kids are bored. Why not go on a treasure hunt? A hobby that many families are taking up these days is something known as letterboxing.

Letterboxing gives you the opportunity to go on a treasure hunt, no matter where you are. With thousands of boxes hidden all over, you’re bound to find a treasure hunt waiting, no matter where your travels may take you.

The premise is simple: letterboxers all over the globe will hide what’s known as a letterbox in an outdoor public location - a park, a hiking trail, etc. In this box will be a small notebook and a rubber stamp. The letterboxer will then write directions to the box in such a way that finding the box will be like a treasure hunt - and make those directions available to other letterboxers.

As a letterboxer, you will also purchase a small notebook and rubber stamp that you carry along with you. Your notebook acts as a type of passport, and your rubber stamp represents a symbol of you. When you find a letterbox, you use the stamp found in the letterbox to mark in your “passport” your trip, then use your stamp to mark in the notebook in letterbox that you were there. You then replace the letterbox where you found it for the next treasure seeker.
