Start Your Own Coin Collection
 by: Robert Thatcher

Coin collections can be prized possessions that can be handed down from generation to generation. There are even coin collections today that can fetch a prize up to hundreds and thousands of dollars. Coin collecting, more importantly, can be a very engaging hobby to follow. Anyone can enjoy collecting things as a hobby. So why not collect something that can appreciate in price as time goes by? That is just one thing that a coin collection can reward its collector. Such a collection can increase in value in time.

People may not be aware of it, but most may have a start of their own coin collection. It is a wonderful hobby worth taking. Coins should not be that hard to collect since there are plenty to go around with. But that is depending on what kind of coins you wish to collect. Regardless of that, a coin collection can be a breeze to start. You might begin with what is easier to obtain in your area. You can collect your own set of good luck coins. Maybe you can add in to that collection a silver dollar, an old Indian token, or a souvenir token. As you keep on collecting, you might find out sometime later that you already have a coin collection before you.

Importance of Thanksgiving

March 30, 2009

Thanksgiving is the most important holiday of the year.

Oh, sure, Christmas is grand, and I know it has many, many fans. I’m not knocking Christmas, but Thanksgiving is more important. And Easter has its fans, too. Rebirth is a wonderful thing, but I still say Thanksgiving is more important. Yes, the kids might put in a good word for Halloween. I am sure they enjoy the costumes and the sugar overdose, but Thanksgiving is more important.

Why?

Because the two most important words in the English language are “Thank You”. This is true for business success, for social pleasure, even for self-actualization.

For business success, a thank you tells a prospect or partner that you are appreciative of what she has just done. It shows you have a genuine interest in that person and the business relationship.

For social interaction, expressing gratitude is equally important to show how you value the other person and the social relationship you have with him. Thank you is a bonding phrase.

But thanksgiving is most important on a personal level for our own happiness. This is true for anybody who has ever lived, but it is even more true for us today.

Socrates Warned Us But We Killed Him

March 30, 2009

The ability to do something that requires generations to develop was kept a secret in all areas of human endeavour during what we call pre-history. It did not change when culture advanced to the point where people could read scrolls. In point of fact Plato observed a reduction in disciplined knowledge resulted from the writing alphabet given to the Greeks by their Danaus forbears or colonizers. But you would think writing might allow an improvement in knowledge and society. Indeed this is potentially true with any medium for sharing but would you say that TV has lead to an increase in knowledge or just an increase in wasted time and confusing inputs? The shamans and elites who developed the various disciplines and metal-working secrets gradually became the most powerful people in the world. When they met each other they were excited to share knowledge in most cases. It is hard to share knowledge with people who are not willing to put out the years of effort to learn more than some little thing, they might use or satisfy some immediate need with.

How To Make a Candle That Smells Strong When It Burns (The Secret Disclosed)
 by: Steve Pollard

Making your Candle Throw (or cast its fragrance over a wide area) is the primary goal of making a Fragranced Candle. This is not hard to achieve if you understand the basic parameters. There are 5 things to consider when making a successfully Fragranced Candle. If you have the following in place, the Candle will be excellent and Fragrant.

Do not be discouraged if your first try is not as good as you had hoped. These things are easily achieved when you know what to plan and look for.

1. Make sure you are using very high grade fragrance concentrates. If you wonder what you have, read the article about the differences between A Grade and B Grade fragrances in the frequently asked questions section.

2. Make sure you use 1 to 1.5 oz of your fragrance per pound. (1 oz to 20 oz liquid wax) You can use less after testing for strength, but start here. With our fragrance it will run you out at that level, and you can back off to your desired fragrance strength. Also make sure that your fragrance is mixing completely into your wax. You will know this when you pour into your candle containers. If there is a bunch of unmixed fragrance on the bottom of the pot, raise your temperature next time and stir it in better before pouring.

Here And There

March 28, 2009

My eyes opened. I am still alive; Living on planet earth. Though unconscious for many hours; Unaware of existence, Unknowing of life, Incognizant of humanity Living in a space of void, Resident of nothingness, Here, but not here. There, but not there.

Now, awakened I know I am here. Thank you Lord! I guess; I may prefer to be there. Heard it is less troublesome, Than here.

But, I accept here. Though I am told there is better And You know I want to be there With You, Yet,I thank you for here, For now.

Here, I am able to hope for there. Adds meaning to my life here. You always visit me here And we sometimes talk about there.

You review with me my assignment here That must be completed Before I can travel there. And you remind me that Even while I am here, I get a little closer To there every day.

I admit I do sometimes wonder about What is going on there And who is there But no one who relocates there Ever revisit here to tell me.

Extreme Digital Photography: Beyond Point-and-shoot

March 27, 2009

When my old Olympus digital camera got broke while caving during a family camping trip, I had mixed feelings. For quite some time I had felt that the quality of some of my pictures was hampered by the limitations of that camera, but I did not look forward to spending the money on a new one.

The old camera wasn’t bad, but there were certain situations where it was difficult to get good pictures with it. When taking pictures at my son’s basketball games, for example, the camera would slow the shutter down to try to improve the exposure, and this would cause the fast-moving players to just look like a blur. The flash was of no help, because it didn’t work well from that distance. All I could do was change the ISO sensitiviy, and that made the pictures grainy. Also, the camera was slow, so I’d often miss a good picture by about half a second. At football games, I had another problem; the players were just so far away that the camera’s zoom wasn’t enough.

Single During the Holidays

March 26, 2009

Mistletoe. Holiday parties. New Years kiss at midnight. This time of year can be challenging for singles. With such an emphasis on family togetherness and couples exchanging heart-felt gifts, it’s hard not to hear the message ? the holidays are not for me.

At family get-togethers you get grilled about what’s going on in the "romance department." In-laws, whose company you cherished all year long, become reminders that you don’t have a "special someone." No singles shopping for gifts appear in the barrage of holiday commercials. If you are single, and not dating anyone, these holiday images can lead to emotions ranging from sadness to depression.

So, what is the best way to combat the holiday blues? Although the following strategies can be applied throughout the year, they are particularly useful during the holidays.

Don’t deny your feelings.

Emotions are neither right nor wrong. They are just how you feel about your situation. Allow yourself to be sad, without the guilt. However, be conscious of how you act on your feelings. Actions to emotions can be right or wrong. Anticipate before going to family events how you will handle dating status questions. It’s best to have a pre-planned strategy of how to politely change the subject. When asked about your love life, a simple, "There’s no news in that area, but here’s what I am doing at work", might be just enough to redirect the conversation.

JAPANESE DOLLS: Boy’s Day Festival in Japan

JAPANESE DOLLS: Boy’s Day Festival in Japan
 by: Helen Vanderberg

Who wouldn’t be fascinated by the concept of having a whole festival dedicated to dolls?

Dolls are shown in Girl’s Day and Boy’s Day festivals in Japan, and cherished over the

generations. Boy’s Day dolls can consist of anything from a healthy-looking Sumi wrestler

to a samurai warrior or his armor.

The dolls are usually set up in a hierarchal arrangement in the family home, meant to show,

perhaps, the emperor and empress, courtiers, handmaidens, and warriors in a social

hierarchy in a way a child can understand.

The same approach may ring true with the carp-shaped banners ranged according to size

either on a pole outside the house. The big fish is daddy, next size down is mother, the

next smallest is elder son or daughter. In the countryside, on a rope across a river, the fish

banners represent the villagers. Everything has a hidden meaning.

Beside the obvious link with Japanese doll festivals, collecting dolls has a much deeper

psychological basis. It is believed that ancient Japanese samurai warriors tied cloth mascot

Tis The Season

March 24, 2009

I was listening to one of my favorite radio talk programs today. The topic of the hour was "do you feel burdened by Christmas?" Much to my amazement the host, and the majority of his guests, spent the better part of an hour whining and moaning about the burdensome nature of the holiday season. "I hate being with my relatives." "Why do I have to spend all this money on presents for people I don’t like?" "There’s too much pressure!" "The traffic in the stores is ridiculous." It went on and on and on!

It’s a well known fact that people tend to be more depressed during the holiday season. It can be distressing if you live far away from your family. Some people actually become depressed because of the decrease in their exposure to sunlight during the winter months. However, what I heard today was different. People were just whining! They sounded like young children who were being forced to do their chores. Then, it hit me. Those people were suffering from PHLOP!
