How to Buy the Right Digital Camera
December 31, 2007
When buying a digital camera there are many things you should consider. First you should understand how a digital camera works. What you are using your digital camera for will help you decide what features to consider and how much you should spend. I am here to educate you and help you decide.
Let’s start with understanding how a digital camera works. A digital camera uses semiconductor chips instead of conventional film. It’s usually a Charged Coupled Device (CCD). When your shutter opens, light strikes the CCD, temporary electronic changes to the CCD and converted into computer language and recorded on either internal or removable memory. After which the images can be viewed on a small screen located on the back of the camera. Later, then of course downloaded to a computer. Did that make sense? It probably didn’t if this is your first time buying a digital camera. Let’s move on.
Today there are endless cameras to choose from. You obviously have a price range in mind. If you are mainly using it to exchange snapshots over the internet or for creating quick and simple advertising, don’t expect to spend more than $500.00. If you want some control over creation and images, expect to spend between $600 and $2000, especially if you want to make prints on a printer capable of "photo quality" reproductions. If only the ‘best will do’ for you than don’t expect to spend anything less than $5000.
Saint Nick to Santa, the MOST extreme makeover?
December 30, 2007
It’s the holiday season, and the first thing that comes to so many minds is presents, and who better to deliver these presents than Jolly Saint Nick himself. Chris Cringle, Saint Nicholas, Santa Claus, etc. etc. But who is this roly poly elf that sneaks around the living room each year? Where did he come from? And -watch out kids- is he real!? In this article you’ll see how Santa went from thin and worshiped to pudgy and present-giving.
The first Europeans brought with them to the new World Saint Nicholas, and Columbus even named a Haitian port for the saint in 1492. Even the city now known as Jacksonville, Florida, was once known as Saint Nicholas Ferry. However, during the sixteenth century, there was a protestant reformation which took a low liking to saints. Although everyone tried to get rid of Saint Nick-related activity and custom, only the English traditions of Christmas were permanently altered. Since so many common people still liked Saint Nick, ‘he’ continued to place nuts, apples and sweets in any shoes left on the hearth, windowsill, or beside a bed.
Cleaning Silk Bouquets In 3 Simple Steps
December 29, 2007
How To Clean A Silk Bouquet
A Silk bouquet can last a lot longer than a bouquet made of real flowers, but it will still droop, and get dusty, over time. Fortunately a little bit of preventive care can go a long way towards keeping your bouquet looking like new.
It doesn’t take long either. 5 minutes spent caring for your bouquet every 3-6 months will keep your bouquet looking as good as it did they day you bought it.
Read on to discover the 3 simple steps to keeping your silk bouquet in pristine condition. You’ll also discover the one thing you should NEVER do to clean your bouquet. Make this mistake, and you might ruin your bouquet forever!
Step 1: Rice Cleaning
Place your bouquet in a plastic shopping bag, along with half a cup of white rice. Twist the bag closed, and then shake the bag for about 60 seconds.
The rice in the plastic bag will get statically charged, and the dust will be attracted to the rice. In the past, people used salt instead of rice, but salt was found to be too hard, and would scratch the flowers. White rice is softer, so it won’t damage the flowers at all.
The Valley Of Pain
December 28, 2007
We were exiled from the Garden of Eden. Its sinless wonders nevermore to regain. So every man on life’s toilsome journey, Must enter the valley of pain.
We don’t enter because of desire And it’s certainly not a voluntary fare. But, rather, it’s a matter of destiny Compelling and forcing us there.
Eden’s garden; its beauty so magnificent, Can’t be reclaimed; it is a lost paradise. Trees of knowledge and life gone forever, We are now paying consequences price.
The valley of pain is bleak and lonely, And all heartache must be suffered alone. The petty and trite ceases to matter. When facing hurt as never before known.
In pain’s valley, no restaurants exist. Shopping malls can’t be found anywhere. There’s no joy to be had from entertainment. There are no parks, for it is no picnic there.
There are no banks in the valley of pain, No theaters, no lounges, no beach. In this valley, we have no lofty aspirations, Surviving the only goal we hope to reach.
Pain’s valley in not a poor man’s haven; We’ll find no comfort, or ease or rest. Nor will we encounter family or friends For this valley is one’s own personal test.
The Top Five Morgan Silver Dollars

Pretty bold prediction, eh? At this point, the reader now has three options: (1) Stop reading and act upon this information, (2) Stop reading and get on with life, or (3) Continue on, evaluate the analytical approach to identify the "Top Five" Morgan dollars, and then implement a variation of (1) or (2) above. If you’ve gotten this far, we encourage you to continue on with option (3).
First, a little background info on the Morgan silver dollar?
The Morgan silver dollar is today one of the most popular of all collector coins. First minted in 1878 following the passage of the Bland-Alison Act, the new dollar was named after its designer, George T. Morgan. Political pressure by powerful silver mining companies, in a gambit to stabilize the price of their commodity at artificially high levels, created the impetus driving the legislative action. Bland-Alison led to the overproduction of silver dollars, resulting in millions of these unused "cartwheels" languishing in bank and Treasury vaults. Indeed, few coins have ever been released under more dubious circumstances than Morgan silver dollars. Minting continued until 1904, and then again for one more year in 1921, when the series finally came to a close.
Happy New Year for 2005
December 26, 2007
It is 7:45 a.m. in Port Moody, British Columbia Canada, and the first day of a new year. I have just started up my computer and I am waiting for the kettle to boil for my morning tea. I look past my window to a scene that is painted on a back drop of silent night not yet melding into daylight.
I am looking for change, for something different than it was last night something that screams out at me "this it is 2005." There is the flickering light across the bay that was winking at me last night. The ocean below my window is tearing itself from the beach drawing itself back into its body as it has done twice a day for centuries. Seagulls fly aimlessly around in circles watching for an opportunity at breakfast. Covering the cool earth and trees beneath it, fresh blankets of snow on the hills remain as they were last night.

Guidelines for Printing Great Photos at Home
December 25, 2007
So you have this great digital camera and you’ve taken lots of great photos. Now what? Well you could go to a store and have them print your images for you, but isn’t that what you did with film? The point of all this great digital technology is that you can print your own photos at home without having to pay someone else to do it. Here are some tips to help you get started:
1. It’ll seem like a lot of money at first but spend the money to get a good printer. Six color at least. Ink jets are wonderful for printing snapshots. You won’t need more than that. Also look around at the computer brands that sell computer packages for digital printing, the printer that they recommend is perfect for printing photos at home.
2. Buy some photo editing software. There are lots of brands out there many of them for pros but you can easily find software under one hundred dollars that will have lots more options than you will ever use. Look for software that has automatic settings so that the computer can automatically color correct, auto focus, brighten, or darken, etc. At least until you learn number 3.
St Valentines Day, Festival of the Matchmakers
December 24, 2007
There are as many as eight possible Valentines Day origins and the three most likely contenders were all early church martyrs.
However, before the Christian Saints, the day started as a festival to honour Juno, Queen of the Roman deities. Juno was sister and consort of Jupiter, mother of Mars, and one of the most important of the Roman pantheon. She had many duties, each with an associated title, as a protector of the Roman people she was Juno Regina, advisor to those about to marry as Juno Moneta and as goddess of Roman women and childbirth, Juno Lucina. From her title “Juno Moneta” we get the word “money” because the Roman mint was built close to one of her temples. For most Romans she was a protector of women as the goddess of marriage, fertility and all aspects of pregnancy and childbirth
Her day was 14 February and the following day was the Feast of Lupercalia.
Lupercalia began at the Ides of February. Members of the Luperci, an order of Roman priests, would gather at the sacred cave where the infants Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, were believed to have been cared for by a she-wolf or lupa. The priests would then sacrifice a goat, for fertility, and a dog, for purification.
