Antidotes for an Alibi

October 22, 2007

Amy King’s first full-length collection, Antidotes for an Alibi, insists that we examine the deceptive clarity of our actions and the goals that motivate us. How does one actually get from “A” to “B"-and is there ever really a "B"? What color is the white space between "A" and "B"? Upon closer inspection, surface realities reveal themselves to be porous and fragile, layered with textures and grains that lead the eye on varying pathways. So what are we to do in a world of newspaper narratives that instruct us toward tidy endings, murmuring that such endings are possible and even inevitable?

These poems greet us with leaking giraffes, dogs that lick lye, the Lone Ranger, the inhabitants of Dishwater Island, an unmarried wife and a Sikh cab driver, all acting within a familiar environment of telephone messages, factory work, walks through woods, red robins and hummingbirds, war zones and American histories. Both the characters and their shifting frameworks combine and overlap to point out the strangeness we tend to overlook for clarity’s sake. King wants us to reconsider the possibilities of current events, to see that Truth is no longer a series of fixed notations in black and white, but is a shape-shifting, multi-faceted chain of perspectives. Her poetry celebrates the multiplicities that sing within the surface of every object and action; she aims at delectable surges, so that readers may touch and revel in the uncertainties of a complex world in motion.

Digital Camera Memory - An Introduction

October 22, 2007

The digital camera is essentially a computer-based device, whose core is controlled by the computer. And as a result the photographs are stored in a location called memory. Now, this concept is or paramount importance in discussing digital camera. Strictly speaking, digital camera memory is where digital pictures are stored inside the camera. The digital camera memory is an essential and often a very neglected and overlooked section of equipments for digital photography and camera. There are many types of memory available for digital cameras, and it is a good practice to mull over what type of memory a camera uses before buying a digital camera. This discussing is aimed in revealing some of this relevant information!

Knowledge of the digital camera memory is very essential for using such a camera and capturing photographs. The most common form of such memory is a memory card. These are reusable, have a limited capacity and can always be installed when required in excess. A person needs to be well informed about enough memory available for taking photographs. A Scrapbook Page To Celebrate Your Childs First Haircut

October 21, 2007

Here’s a great idea for making a special ‘first haircut’ scrapbook page. Between the ages of about 12 and 18 months, a baby boy or girl may go for their first hair cut. You’ve probably seen that there are many children’s hair salons that offer special deals for a child’s first visit. They have a special chair, take a photo or even video the visit — and then later you take away the photo or video and a lock of hair as a keepsake. So why not create a scrap book page to celebrate this event in a special way!

Here are some tips to give the page a fresh angle. And of course these ideas could be re-worked for all kinds of different kids’ scrapbook projects.

Use Homemade Paper

For a unique background, try using homemade paper. You can make your own customized paper of any color and texture you want. This takes a bit of time and effort. Alternatively, try soaking a piece of card-stock. After a few minutes, crumple the paper a bit and then iron it flat again. This will closely approximate the appearance of homemade paper.

Nicely Designed Pillows As Gifts

October 20, 2007

Many of us are probably squeezing out our brains to the limit just for a single purpose, to think of what to give especially when it’s Christmas or just a simple birthday present. It’s always nice to give the jewelries, toys, clothes and shoes as we all had been used to of what to give. But haven’t you realized that there is something much cheaper and more fantastic than clothes or jewelries? Yes, and those are pillows.

Pillows can oftentimes express our sweetness and our tender loving care to someone we give them to. The feeling of sweetness just pops-up when we receive pillow gifts. There are a lot of pillow designs but the ones that best fit as a gift are the ones that are nicely designed and cute. A design with Disney characters would be nice just like a design with Finding Nemo characters and a design with our all time favorite superheroes like batman, superman, incredibles!

They are not just for kids they are for adults too. Sweethearts, for example has a lot of moments to share by just seeing the gifted pillow. The expression of "This was the pillow you gave me on my birthday, I liked it so much so sweet" just goes out in the mouth.

How to Make Your Own Refrigerator Magnets

October 18, 2007

There are several types of refrigerator magnets that you can make with a little effort and the right materials. Below are some ideas for making magnets for gifts or just for fun.

1. First you need to gather the needed ingredients. The easiest magnets to make are flat magnets that you print out on your printer. These magnets are great for personalized favors and gifts. You will need special magnet sheets that are designed to be printed on, which should be available at most office supply stores as well as online.

2. If you are artistic, then you can draw your own images and scan them into your computer. Or you can draw them using a paint program. If not, you can do a search for free clip art and images, which should turn up plenty of images that you can use. These images can be imported into a word processor.

3. Next, you can insert the desired text. To make sure the text is readable, insert a box with solid background into the picture. This is where you will insert your personalized text.

Holiday Tips For Stepfamilies

Holiday Tips For Stepfamilies: Let Go Of The “Brady Bunch” Fantasy!

When my co-author–Bill Merkel Ph.D.–and I first formed our stepfamily, I had many fantasies about how our family would behave like the “Brady Bunch” over the holidays– a happy, harmonious, singing-and-dancing unit. Then reality struck, and we couldn’t even agree on how to decorate the Christmas tree!

Ultimately, we created a “his” side-with multi-colored, blinking lights and tinsel–and a “hers” side-with hand-painted eggs and popcorn strings. Seven years later, I can tell you that trying to create a “Brady Bunch” holiday sets stepfamilies up for failure. Instead, I suggest you follow these tips:

1. Examine and try to let go of your “Brady Bunch” fantasies.

2. Continue “old” holiday traditions with your biological kids while creating new ones for the stepfamily.

3. If the kids don’t buy into your fantasy holiday, try to see

the world from their point of view.

4. Practice the fine art of silence when your stepfamily is stressed by the holidays. You don’t have to share all your negative feelings.

5. Don’t compete with your children’s “other” parents by showering kids with expensive gifts.

Starting A Coin Collection

October 17, 2007

The best place to start collecting would be with pennies, we will focus on the Lincoln Cent for the years 1909 through 1958, which are the Wheat Cents. There are still a number of “wheat cents” showing up in circulation, so it is possible to start a coin collection without spending a great deal of money.

While you are searching your pocket change for “wheat cents”, be sure to check for silver coinage and of course check those quarters. Then new 50 State Commemorative Quarters are a very good place to start since you can find five new states each year plus the different mint marks.

Listen as I Share: WE

October 16, 2007

You speak simple, completley understandable justifications I respect them, respect you, honor what you tell me and even though I know where you’re coming from, I just wanted to share with you, let you hear: my heart…it’s crying… for you, your words, and hands your hugs, kisses comfort… I want you… frightening, shaking, nervous to admit: “I need you” want me need me please be with me and share with me any and everything, anytime, anywhere I am here, ready, willing, WANTING to listen waiting to know about YOU your past, present, even your secrets I give you my word: there will be no judge present, just me…standing, with open arms, waiting for you to take the first steps, whether they be grand or microscopic, I will wait with tired, heavy arms for you to come to me. I understand the situation isn’t the easiest, but hopefully you will feel as I, when I tell you: “nothing that’s worth anything is easy” Are you thinking about me as I write this? Am I pacing back and forth in your thoughts like you are in mine? Do you feel the love and power in your heart the way I do? Please say yes…please……..please your eyes say yes, but I can’t read your heart; if it is in your heart that actions are born, or your kiss that speaks your desires I know the answers to my questions but still crave for you to tell me I am scared of what lies ahead, afraid of what is, can, or will be of your ability to heartache. Is it worth it? you, me, together, one? the passion spoken between our lips, hands scream yes my heart yearns for your company, your touch. mornings welcomed with bright lights glow, even though it’s pouring rain when I am with you, rain is foreign, non-existent complete your hand in mine, my hand in yours. whichever way it is to be spoken. so much more than lust…it’s shared swings, speaking eyes, held hands not wanting to let go, a lost key to a lock, introductions and visits, talking birds, spilled drinks, written words on my skin… touch me paint me I am your canvas… laughs and unexplainable want, emotion following, chills thta never go away like a consistent heart singing your name. wipe the hair form my forehead with your fingertips look into my eyes and read me… we kiss it can’t be! did you really just read me? or are we thinking the same thing? Romance tangled in a thorn brush, pleading to get out. “you’re hurting me, I’m crying, bleeding from all the thorns” run with me, play with me, sing with me, but especially swing with me. swing with me to the moon, so we can let go of the chains we hold on to that keep us from falling, the chains that are the only separation from my arms to be wrapped around your waist, the only separation that keeps me from running my fingers through your hair. chains those damn chains. messages we send back and forth in secret, they hate it, you do it anyway (one of my favorite characteristics) “I’m falling, tumbling, rocks” I am too. Kiss, feel, touch, my lips, breasts, face, any and eveything for you. discover me… I want…need…ask…beg for you to discover me. you say it’s hard to open up, share your intimacy, I want to make it easier, reassure you with open arms, ears and smiles I am HERE…talk to me. Lets share experience, emotion, familiarities, unknowns, places, kisses, breath, what’s mine is yours, take as you please, but I warn you: (I am strong, very strong) but that strength has the capability to soften for time to time I can cry, hurt… please don’t hurt me fragile is I, behind all the strength, but step not on egg shells or bite your tongue, FOR YOU I’LL BE ME, IF FOR ME YOU’LL BE YOU

Digital Zoom Versus Optical Zoom

October 15, 2007

The digital camera is but a technological advancement of the conventional analog camera. And thus every component of the analog camera must have been upgraded or changed to bring in some improvisations. This discussion is an effort to unravel alteration and make one comparison between what was and what is! This discussion is thereby focused upon a very critical component of a camera (analog as well as digital), the zoom!

Before making a comparison it is important to discuss the significance of the subject matter, in this case the zoom. Well a zoom lens has more than a few portable glass components inside it. By adjusting these components, the focal length of the lens can be altered. Modifying the focal length alters the view distance as well as reduces the field of view, thereby making the projected image to appear larger.

It must me noted that both the optical zoom and the digital zoom are components that are used to magnify an image, but they work in fundamentally different principles and acquiesces drastically different results. In general, optical zooms always produce a far finer and advanced image than digital zoom.
