Collectibles: Searching for those Hard-to-Find Diecast Models

August 14, 2007

For collectors of any kind, there are always those items that are much sought after, but nearly impossible to find. If they’re lucky enough to finally locate them, the price is often exorbitant or there are some other restrictions which inhibit their ability to secure them. With a good deal of patience and persistence, however, even the rarest of these collectibles can be found and purchased without as much difficulty as one might imagine. One simply needs to know where to look.

In the past, people have been pretty much limited to finding rare collectibles at auctions, estate sales and flea markets. Today, much of the searching is done via the internet. Diecast models of all sorts ? including those which are considered rare ? can be located with the simple click of the mouse on a major search engine.

Suppose, for a moment, that you’re interested in locating a specific Formula One racecar diecast model. By going to an online merchant that specializes in this type of model, you’ll be able to choose from among a wide variety of rare or hard-to-find models. An example of a site that would carry such items is www.f1models.biz. If, on the other hand, you’re more interested in finding rare diecast models of airplanes from Corgi Aviation, you can visit www.planecrazy.biz.

Ready for Christmas? Enjoy an Organized Holiday This Year

August 13, 2007

1. Keep a stack of directions TO your place for people who need to know how to get to your home or office. This prevents you from having to write them out every time you are asked. Type the directions and save them on your computer. This way you can email, fax, or mail them the directions. Make copies and keep them accessible. It is also helpful to keep directions FROM your place for future visits you need to make.

2. Rather than add to someone else’s clutter with a gift you are not sure they would like, give ‘consumable’ items for Christmas such as: special coffees or teas, cookies, or gift certificates.

3. Keep a Christmas idea file. Keep a folder and insert recipes, magazine clippings, gift ideas, and other ideas you might like to use for the holiday.

4. A COUNTDOWN is super effective for any event such as weddings, holidays, and parties. Start by creating a master to-do list of everything that needs to be done for your special event. Then, transfer a couple of to-dos onto each day preceding your event. Cross off items when finished!

The Easy Way to Make a Club Logo

August 13, 2007

Are you a member of a club or association? Have you ever thought how much better your letterheads would look with your own club logo? How about a sign for your club with your logo and club name on it?

Well, it is really very easy to make up your own logo. It will be unique to your club too.

By using your computer and some copyright free clipart you will have a huge range of material to choose from. Here’s how to begin this exciting project.

You are going to select suitable objects from the clipart package and use these to design your logo.

Choose things that relate to your club’s activities. For example, cameras, tripod, and film for a photography club. Or perhaps a checked background with a few chess pieces for a chess club.

The easiest way is to open an art/graphics program - most computers come with one. This does not need to be any particular program just whatever you have available.

Have a look through the clipart. This can be the ones that come with the art/graphics program or one of the many clipart CD that are for sale. Try to use copyright free clipart, most clipart is. You will be combining various clipart objects in your final logo so there shouldn’t be any copyright problems anyway.

Photographs Everywhere, But Is It Really Art?

August 12, 2007

I once heard a lady say to a photographer that she would have bought his work if it had been a painting. She liked the image, but for whatever reason didn’t consider the medium suitable for her "it’s just a photo".

I am sure that some share her thoughts, whilst others would be quite happy either way, but a growing number of people do recognise photography as an Art form. And collect it.

"There are three fundamental components of what we call art. First, is the artist; second, is the medium; and third is the artwork. All three, clearly are interrelated.” Tad Beckman

Defining photographic art

It is true many people do regard photography as merely a reproductive medium, and the photographer as simply the technician. And if this were just about your holiday snaps then it would be a valid point.

So let’s start with my definition of photographic art. I say my definition because there is no stock answer it means different things to different people.

For me it’s about creating a beautiful image that is an interpretation of the scene that I saw in my mind captured on film, rather than just a recording of what is already there.

Seven Great Holiday Decorating Tips–Without Breaking the Bank

August 11, 2007

If you’re looking for great ways to decorate your home this glorious holiday season–without breaking the bank and losing your sanity in the process–here are seven terrific ideas to get you started.

1. You don’t have to concentrate on one sense or the other at holiday time. You’ve got five senses–so make sure to fill them all with delight at holiday time. Use cheerful warm-colored ribbons to highlight chandeliers, play your favorite seasonal music, fill the air with the smell of cinnamon, cloves, and essential oils, share your favorite recipe, and add sumptuous silky fabrics to table cloths, tree skirts, and pillows.

2. You don’t have to use all your decorations every year, especially if you own quite a few. Alternating decorations makes it easier on you, and when you don’t see the same decorations year after year, they tend to have more meaning.

3. You don’t need to add anything to your Christmas tree’s water. According to the National Christmas Tree Association, plain tap water is the best source of moisture for your tree. In fact, the NCTA says that some commercial additives and home concoctions can actually be detrimental to a tree’s moisture retention and increase needle loss. So keep your Christmas tree stand filled with plain water and use the savings to buy a few extra stocking stuffers.

Gemstone Collecting

August 10, 2007

Personally, I have become fascinated with gemstones (precious and semi-precious stones). I am amazed at the array of colors and properties of these little treasures found in the earth. God created something truly amazing for us to look at and to adorn ourselves. Many of these tiny treasures are a fantastic investment. Purchasing a rare and beautiful gemstone that will significantly appreciate is an opportunity for everyone to enjoy and benefit. Making a return or to pass down through the generations, gemstone collecting can be a rewarding and profitable hobby.

I’ve been passionate about gemstones and collecting gemstones for quite some time now. My fascination started a couple of years ago and I’ve become an avid collector ever since. I am exhilarated when I make a new find of beauty or value. Of all of the things I’ve collected in my life, this has been the most rewarding. I’m also making investments that will continue to increase in value for myself and my heir’s.

I’ve gathered quite a lot of information about gemstones and thought it would be wonderful to put all of this information into one source for new collectors so they wouldn’t have to do all of the searching and gleaning I’ve had to do to become a more knowledgeable gem enthusiast.

Barriers

August 9, 2007

There are many times I set up barriers and walls, invisible unless you come too close, And then you hit them.

You wonder what happened.

You didn’t know, I can’t let you in.

I’ve lost the key to open the doors in the walls, and I don’t know how To take them down.

Collectible Action Figures - Is About Fun Memories And More Money

August 8, 2007

Superhero action figures first stormed the doors of department stores and toy stores nearly 35 years ago. Constructed of various kinds of plastic and clothed in uniforms, costumes and capes G.I. Joe, Superman, Spiderman, the Lone Ranger and others marched, flew and rode off store shelves and into our lives. After short stops under the Christmas tree or at birthday parties, these action figures found their way into toy boxes and playrooms around the world.

These action figures did their superhero work of incredible feats, saving scores of lives and neutralizing villains. They accomplished these heroic deeds on lazy summer afternoons and rainy Saturday mornings in front of the TV set. Too often, they also needed our help after school when we were supposed to be doing homework.

These superheroes were always our friends and they helped us through our childhoods. They taught us to share, to value friendships and that good will triumph over evil. Perhaps, most importantly, they stretched our imaginations and made us believe that anything was possible. These mighty action figures were invincible to everything but time. Time finally did them in. Or did it?

Glorious Holiday Decorating: Ten Tips

August 8, 2007

If you’re looking for ways to decorate your home in a glorious holiday fashion this season–without breaking the bank and losing your sanity in the process–here are ten terrific ideas to get you started.

1. You don’t need to climb ladders and hang millions of lights all over your house to make a happy holiday statement. You can create an enticing “Welcome Home” atmosphere by simply placing a special emphasis on your front door, surrounding it with colorful lights and garlands of greenery.

Christmas Rush this Holiday Season to go to Digital Photography

August 7, 2007

So you have rushed out into the malls in a mad panic for this christmas holiday and are going to purchase a electronic item on Credit think again. Consumers are paying again through the nose agin this year 1.5 billion in sales up from last year and sure to gain ground next year again.

Almost on a monthly basis you see a new digital camera rolls off the assembly line almost like clockwork. In order to save your money when getting into digital photography we suggest getting something more middle of the road like the Fuji F450. Fuji F450 review

Don’t fall for salesman tactics for upselling, you don’t need anything over 5 mega pixel in my opinion. All digital cameras above 5.0 are a bit overkill unless your a professional photographer in which case you would most likely purchase a digital SLR camera. Kodak has stepped up to the plate like always with many versions of the easyshare cameras. Kodak packs value into every camera they produce in my opinion and their very inexpensive. I would recommend having a look at the Kodak easyshare DX7590 if your looking for affordable cameras. Kodak DX7590 Review
